Al Michaels won’t be part of NBC’s NFL playoff coverage, and fans aren’t happy about the rumors swirling that Taylor Swift may have played a part in it.
The veteran broadcaster is a household name for NFL fans, and the fact his voice won’t be heard during the playoffs has left many confused and upset.
One of the theories floating around is that Michaels’ absence is due to his comments about Swift. The singer has become a household name during some games ever since she began dating Travis Kelce and attending his games.
Michaels’ comments about Swift
With Swift’s presence at Kansas City Chiefs games highlighted, it has led to some of the broadcasts taking away from the action on the field.
Michaels made it clear he wasn’t interested in doing that during one game, stating: “You can’t make the sideshow the show.”
His comments stand in contrast with the NFL, with the league soaking in all the attention Swift and her fans have brought to the league. This has prompted the league’s social media and broadcasters to lean heavily on Swift.
Given Michaels made it known that he wasn’t a fan of giving Swift more attention than the game, fans believe that put him at odds with the broadcasters.
As a result fans believe Michaels was dropped from the NFL’s playoff coverage because of his stance on Swift, which isn’t sitting well with many of them.
“A damn shame to be honest,” wrote one fan, adding, “Rodger Goodell continues to push football towards wrestling rather than an actual sporting event.”
“Can’t believe I’m saying this but I’m riding with Al big time on this one,” wrote another fan, with a third adding: “I don’t care personally whose spouse it is. I turn on football to watch football. If you are going to show me someone’s significant other I’m annoyed.”
