Former NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb suggested that the league may be using Travis Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift as a storyline for their benefit.
McNabb, who previously played for the Philadelphia Eagles expressed his belief that the league might be encouraging this off-field narrative.
‘I blame the NFL for this because remember when this was all going on, NFL was trying to benefit off of his relationship with her,” he noted.
“I just think the NFL and the media has blown that thing up so much where it’s become a distraction.. When you’re playing well, everybody’s loving it.”
The Kansas City Chiefs faced an unexpected setback with a recent loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, bringing their season record to 9-6.
With aspirations for homefield advantage slipping away, the top conference seed seems out of reach as the Baltimore Ravens have secured 12 wins.
Speculation arose that Swift’s association with Kelce could be a distraction affecting the Chiefs’ performance.
McNabb seemed to agree, suggesting that the NFL may be promoting these narratives. He emphasized that such distractions hinder the team’s focus on football, especially when they should be preparing for crucial games.
“Now you’re looking at the struggle continue to pile up from the play calls, from the organization, the way that they look out there, to the preparation, to the production,” he added.
“And this is now starting to become a problem for the Kansas City Chiefs… When everything has become more than just football, then this is what you see on the field.”
