The Chiefs suffered a surprise 20-14 loss at home on Christmas Day to the Las Vegas Raiders, their fourth loss in the last six games, which cost them the possibility of finishing the year as number one in the American Football Conference (AFC).

The Chiefs still have in in their own hands to win their eighth consecutive AFC West title if they win one of the two remaining games against the Bengals, in Week 17, or the Chargers, at the end of the season, which still falls short of the expectations generated by this franchise.

The tension within coach Andy Reid’s team was evidenced by the frustration of star players Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce in the loss to the Raiders.

Before halftime of the game, Mahomes yelled and complained to members of his line that had allowed him to be sacked on several occasions, and Kelce vented his anger by throwing his helmet against a table.

The anger of both Mahomes and Kelce is justified. Kansas City’s group of receivers has dropped the most passes so far this year. In addition, the Chiefs’ offense is the most penalized in the NFL. Not to mention, Chiefs are the second-most turnover-riddled team through Week 16.

After falling to a surprise defeat to the Raiders, Monday’s performance raised eyebrows around the league, including Kurt Warner.

The former Super Bowl winner went so far as to wonder if Mahomes’ performance was his worst since becoming the starter in Kansas City.

“Watched #Chiefs O & could have been worst overall game by this O in Mahomes era [sic],” Warner posted on X. “1st credit #RaidersD who out-coached & out played KC.

“2nd KC was bad everywhere PM2 missed reads & throws, concepts were confusing, got manhandled upfront, etc… it’s getting late ppl!!”
