Although the Kansas City Chiefs haven’t been the same juggernaut when they won Super Bowl LVII last year, the team was able to capture the AFC West and secure a spot in the 2023 NFL Playoffs.
Throughout the regular season, the Chiefs haven’t looked like the explosive offense that their fanbase has been accustomed to seeing.
Kansas City still has Patrick Mahomes under center, but the superstar quarterback hasn’t had reliable receiving options to throw to.
Rashee Rice has taken over as the No. 1 wideout, but Mahomes’ go-to target remains Travis Kelce who has made waves this season because of his romance with music megastar Taylor Swift.
While Kelce may be winning off the field, his play this year has taken a noticeable dip as he failed to deliver several statements game.
With the Chiefs not playing for a postseason berth, the team decided to rest Kelce which will end one of his most impressive streaks via Adam Schefter of ESPN.
“Travis Kelce’s streak of seven straight seasons of at least 1,000 receiving yards comes to an end,” Schefter tweeted.
It’s incredibly rare for a tight end to hit over 1,000 receiving yards in a season, so for someone like Kelce to do it seven years in a row is nothing short of amazing.
Kelce will end the regular season with 93 receptions for 984 yards and five touchdowns, great numbers for any player but slightly below what the Chiefs expect out of their star tight end.
However, while snapping the streak is unfortunate Kelce should be better off in the postseason after getting some extra rest.
