The Los Angeles Chargers will take on their division rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs, in their season finale. However, they will face the Chiefs without their superstar quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs locked up the number three seed in the AFC regardless of the game’s outcome.

The Chargers will instead face backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert. Gabbert will be the QB1 for the Chiefs, but he may be without the top pass catcher on the team.

The Chiefs may also be without their other offensive superstar, tight end Travis Kelce. Kansas City virtually has nothing to play for, but the decision on whether he’ll sit or not has not been decided by head coach Andy Reid.

Although nothing is on the line for the team, a lot is riding on Kelce, who is only 16 receiving yards away from notching his eighth consecutive season with 1,000 receiving yards. Kelce is the ultimate team player, and if he doesn’t play, then so be it, but if he does, Gabbert told Emily Bicks of Heavy that he will do all he can to get Kelce to 1K yards.

The 34-year-old has been dominant for a long time, and with this record on the line, I find it hard to believe Kelce will sit against the Chargers. The Chiefs and Gabbert will do all they can to force-feed Travis to start the game to get to 1K as soon as possible. Overall, Kelce is ranked fourth in receiving yards among tight ends, with our very own Antonio Gates at third with 11,841 yards.

Kelce has had a lot of focus on him this season for all the off-the-field stuff, but when he’s on, he’s among the best pass catchers in the league. Will Reid trot him out there, or will he try to get those 16 yards to keep the streak going? We shall see.
