‘She’s just the most unbelievable performer and the most generous friend,’ Abrams told PEOPLE of Swift on the Grammys 2024 red carpet… She’s just more than a friend to me.. Gracie Abrams declared…
While speaking with PEOPLE’s Janine Rubenstein at the 2024 Grammys, the “I Miss You I’m Sorry” singer, 24, explained what it felt like to open up for Swift, 34, on her Eras Tour.
Abrams said opening up for Swift was an experience “beyond my wildest dreams.”
“Being a part of that tour in a tiny way has changed the course of my life in so many ways,” she continued, noting that “the opportunity to study the greatest” during a tour on “such an insane scale” was invaluable.
“She’s just the most unbelievable performer and the most generous friend and the fact that she…took a chance on me is, I think, why I get to be in this room tonight,” Abrams said. “It’s not lost on me that her belief in me has really just…done a lot. So, I’m deeply grateful to her, forever.”
Abrams was attending the Grammys for the first time and was nominated in the coveted best new artist category at the ceremony at the Crypto.com arena on Sunday, thanks to her debut studio album, Good Riddance.
While speaking. with PEOPLE, she teased a new album that she’s currently in the process of making.
She said that touring with Swift was her first time performing live, so she learned important aspects of singing like how to “project with your voice” and “what it means to fill a space” since she’d only ever performed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This next album that I’ve been working on…it’s very influenced by the amount of live performances I’ve had the privilege of doing over the past two years.”
One thing her friend Swift didn’t pass on to her was a love for cats so strong she had to get one of her own. She told PEOPLE she didn’t run out and get a furry feline after The Eras Tour.
“I didn’t, I should!” Abrams said, laughing. “There’s a neighborhood cat that my roommate and I, you know, we host her often, so it’s like we’ve got like a half-cat.”
