Robert Griffin III has slammed the NFL for allowing the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins game to go ahead despite the ‘dangerous’ conditions for players, coaches and fans in Missouri.

Earlier on Saturday, the NFL decided to move Sunday’s wildcard game between the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers to Monday because of the 65mph wind gusts and snow forecast for Western New York.

But, despite that, the Chiefs and Dolphins are still set to play at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday night.

Arrowhead Stadium is expected to feel temperatures around -5°F at the time of kickoff, dropping as low as -10°F later in the evening. That doesn’t include a projected wind chill of -23°F for kickoff.

Griffin III believes that goes against the NFL’s pledge to protect players’ safety and calls for all future NFL stadiums to be built with a roof.

The former Washington and Baltimore quarterback said: ‘If the Steelers-Bills game is going to be postponed then the Chiefs-Dolphins game should get postponed too.

‘New York governor Kathy Hochul announced that the Steelers-Bills game will move from Sunday to Monday. Why? Because there are projected over 50mph winds and up to seven inches of snow.

‘Therefore, in other words, that means it’s just not safe for the players, coaches and fans going to and from the game, let alone to play in it. I think that’s the right move.

‘But when you look at the Chiefs-Dolphins game, it’s like “nope, we’re just going to play that one. Guess what? They have -1 degree weather, it’s supposed to be a wind chill of up to -30 degrees. Oh yeah, and there’s snow and there’s winds of up to 29mph.

‘Are you trying to tell me that’s safe? No, no it’s not safe. Not for the players, for the fans, for the coaches and it’s not football weather!

‘Guys, football is a brutal sport. It’s a gladiator sport, the toughest people on the face of the planet play football. The saying “we’re going to play them anywhere, anytime, no matter what the weather” is just a saying.

‘We use that to pump up our guys, our teammates because if we’ve got to play in these conditions we’re just going to play in them. It is what it is and we’re not going to complain about it.

‘But if the NFL is really about player safety it’s their job to do what is in the best interest of the players. Guys the weather is unsafe. Winter isn’t coming, it’s here.

‘It’s not soft to say in these conditions that the game should be moved and I do mean both games. And from this point forward there should never be another stadium in the NFL that is built without a roof.

‘Make them all a dome and make it safer for the players without all these elements.’
